The solar rebate just got ten times bigger for business
The federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme is expanding from a 100 kW cap to 1 MW. That means businesses, farms, schools and community organisations can finally install a properly sized rooftop system and still claim the upfront discount, cutting around 20 per cent off the install cost.
Larger energy users were locked out of the rebate that millions of households have used since 2011.
Big commercial roofs can now carry a system that actually matches how much power the site uses.
The discount comes straight off your install price. No separate application, no waiting for a cheque.
Real numbers for a real roof
Figures published by the Minister for Climate Change and Energy on 5 August 2026. Your actual discount and savings depend on your site, roof and usage pattern, which is exactly what our free assessment works out.
250 kW system
Generates roughly 345 MWh a year, around $50,000 a year off electricity for a medium sized business such as a retailer.
500 kW system
Enough to power a small manufacturing site that runs plant and machinery through the day.
850 kW system
Produces about 1,173 MWh a year, suited to an industrial energy user with heavy daytime load.
If you have a big roof and a big power bill, this is for you
Australian homes have installed 22 GW of rooftop solar. Business has managed only about 5.6 GW, almost all of it under 100 kW. This change is aimed squarely at that missing middle.
- Manufacturers and industrial sites running plant through daylight hours
- Farms and agricultural operations with sheds, pumps and cold storage
- Retailers, warehouses and logistics centres with large flat roofs
- Schools, childcare centres and hospitals with steady weekday load
- Clubs, churches and community facilities looking to cut running costs
- Commercial landlords lifting the value and appeal of a tenanted building
Every commercial installer in NSW will be booked out from 1 October

Common questions
When does the expansion start?
The expanded scheme is expected to commence from 1 October 2026, subject to the necessary regulations being in place.
Do I have to apply for anything?
No separate government application. The discount is delivered through certificates created by your installation and comes off your install price.
Can I combine it with state rebates?
Yes. The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme is a federal scheme and is separate from state run rebate programs.
Why get a design now if it starts in October?
Network connection approvals and system design take time, and every commercial installer in the state will be booked out from day one. Getting designed and approved early is how you install early.
What if my roof cannot fit 1 MW?
Most sites do not need it. The point is that you are no longer forced to undersize a system to stay under 100 kW. We size to your consumption, not to a cap.

No issuesPosted on Google Ashour Barkho20 February 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently had a 10.2kW solar system and battery installed by Interactive Solar and couldn’t be happier with the experience. From the initial consultation through to installation, Aram, Ash and the team were professional, transparent and easy to deal with. Communication was clear at every stage, timelines were honoured, and the workmanship was neat and well executed. What stood out most was their responsiveness and willingness to answer questions in detail. As someone who looks closely at specs and documentation, I appreciated how straightforward and accommodating they were throughout the process. The install team was efficient, respectful of the property and left everything clean and tidy. The system was commissioned smoothly and everything is running exactly as expected. Highly recommend Interactive Solar to anyone looking for a quality solar and battery installation backed by solid service and communication.Posted on Google Tracey Roberts2 January 2026Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The team took the time to explain everything in simple terms, helped me choose the right system for my home, and the installation was quick and really tidy. I’ve already noticed a big drop in my power bill. Customer support has also been great — super responsive and happy to answer any questions. Honestly wish I’d switched to solar sooner. Highly recommend Interactive Solar to anyone in Australia looking for a reliable and professional solar company.Posted on Google Dave Carver27 October 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Got mine 5 years ago Aram was fantastic to deal with highly recommend they also did a friends at work after I recommended and they are very happy alsoPosted on Google Tony Murace24 October 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I dealt with both Bianca and Aram whom were both very helpful in explaining the various solar system parts when I called. We live on the Northern Beaches and this company is over an hour away at Campbelltown and they installed top quality panels for a 8.8kw system with an 8kw Fronius Inverter with panels equally shared on both sides of our roof. The installation was excellent, and the system has been performing flawlessly since Feb 2024 and the same identical system was more than $6000 cheaper than northern beaches recommended companies. One of these northern beaches companies even tried selling us a superseded and underpowered inverter (5kw) so it could be overclocked! That is an enormous difference and proof since building my house since 1984 that everything is dearer on the northern beaches and always better prices from out west. The boys even relocated 2 huge whirlybirds we have on the roof for no extra cost and utilised some spare tiles I had aside incase they required them so to have a prefect install. You can do your own firmware updates online very simply and there is nothing to monitor as the inverter does it all for you. We have received our first zero bill which should also continue throughout the summer. We are so glad to go on recommendation from family out west and highly recommend this great company with extremely competitive pricing for top quality panels and inverter requiring no "bells and whistles" and are honest and up front about everything and any doubts or questions you seek. Update October 2025... Interactive Solar also did an equally impressive installation at my mums house. Great service and excellent workmanship.
